When in Quezon Province: Popular Destination - Palaisdaan Restaurant (Original)

The Restaurant

I’m a native of Quezon Province. I was born and raised in Lucena City, the province’s capital. Back then, we didn’t have malls, restaurants or shops that can be seen anywhere unlike today. If we wanted to shop, dine and stroll, we’d travel to Manila or in nearby provinces. But there is something we have that other’s didn’t, it’s our very own Palaisdaan restaurant (original).

Palaisdaan Restaurant
Address: Sitio Lanzonesan, Tayabas, Quezon
Contact No.: (042) 793-3529
Restaurant is open from 8am to 10 pm (last order is 9pm)

Located at Tayabas, Quezon Province, The original Palaisdaan restaurant is a theme restaurant with floating bamboo huts on a large pond surrounded by a rice field. There is no other place as serene, relaxing, authentic and serving quality fresh food as Palaisdaan restaurant.

I’ve been in other restaurants serving fresh seafood but Palaisdaan is very unique since it is surrounded by a rice field. Other restaurants have opened with floating bamboo huts also but Palaisdaan restaurant takes the cake. Locals and foreigners come to dine in this place and we always find it full regardless if it’s a normal day. Imagine weekends and holidays! We’d wait an hour just so we can eat here.

The Food
Sinugno, Sinigang na Sugpo, Inihaw na Spareribs, Pritong Tilapia, Inihaw na Tilapia and Sizzling Gambas

My favorite food are Inihaw/Pritong Tilapia, Sinugno, Inihaw na Spareribs, Sinigang na Hipon, Sisig, Sizzling Gambas and Inihaw na Porkchop.
Fresh Buko Juice
½ kl is usually 2pcs of Tilapia.
Pritong Tilapia
2 orders of the main dish in half kilo is already good for 2 persons.
Inihaw na Porkchop
If you’re in a group of 4 persons, 3 orders of the main dish in 1kl will be enough to satisfy your hungry tummy.
Sisig
Ernie only paid Php 905 for our orders.
Rice
We had 1/2 kl of Pritong Tilapia, 1kl of Inihaw na Porkchop, 1 Sisig, 4 orders of plain rice, buko juice and coke.

Tip: Your food will be cooked fresh and will take around 30mins to be served. So, order your food in advance.
Kamayan means eating with your bare hands
Use this to ask for service or extra rice :)
Another thing, you can taste their Sinigang na Sugpo soup for FREE! Just ask for soup and they'll give it to you -minus the Hipon of course!

Emotional Connection

We celebrate most of our important occasions here. From birthdays, anniversaries, graduation, christening and for others, weddings. Chacha celebrated her birthday here and most of the time we come here for family dates whenever we visit her Lala in Lucban. In the left picture, Chacha celebrated her 1st birthday while on the right, she is currently 2 years and 2 months old.

What Else?

Aside from good food, the owner's son, Mr. Rosauro Delos Santos, branched into the hotel industry by opening the Kamayan sa Palaisdaan Hotel & Resort. At the entrance, you will be greeted with an airplane restaurant, Air Summit Gourmet, which I will cover in a different blog.

What's in the Menu?

How we got here?
I live in Makati during weekdays and come home to Lucena every weekends. I don't drive a car so I commute all the time.

From Ayala Triangle, I'd ride a bus going to Jac Liner Terminal, its beside the LRT Buendia station. Then I’ll ride the bus to Lucena (Word of caution though, a lot of commuters ride from this terminal so expect a long queue of line. Sometimes I wait in line for 2-4hrs but this usually happens from Friday to Sunday from 4pm onwards).

The drive from the Jac Liner terminal to Lucena Grand Central Terminal usually takes 4-5hrs due to the rush hours. If you travel during the wee hours, the trip will take about 3hrs only. Once you reach the Lucena Grand Terminal, you can ride either a jeepney or van going Palaisdaan Restaurant.

Pasalubong
We have a small pasalubong and canteen business in front of the entrance gate of Kamay Ni Hesus Healing Shrine and another small pasalubong outlet inside the grotto.

I personally put up our own pasalubong every Holy Week inside the grotto which we call, Chacha’s Pasalubong. I guess it’s safe to say we’ve been doing business inside and outside the area of Kamay Ni Hesus for a decade now.

Don't forget to buy your pasalaubong (homecoming gift). The following are the bestsellers in Lucban in no particular order:
  1. Longganisang Lucban by Eker and Ely
  2. Pancit Lucban, aka. Pancit Habhab by Far East Miki Factory (better eat it on a Banana Leaf)
  3. Lady Fingers, aka. Broas by Campville's or Campita's
  4. Puto Seko by Vens
  5. Hardinera
  6. Tikoy
  7. Buding (Cassava Cake)
  8. Lambanog (Bubble gum flavor)
  9. Yema Cake (Rodilla's)
Longganisang Lucban (Garlic Flavor)

Broas (Lady Fingers)

Tikoy (ready to eat)

Pancit Lucban (Pancit Habhab)
Our pasalubong outlet inside is named Rowy's Pasalubong 3 for P100 while our outlet outside with a canteen is named Rowena's Pasalubong 3 for P100. Both managed by my mom. During holy week, you will find extra outlets near the exit, you will find Chacha's Pasalubong which I personally manage with Chacha :)

When in Quezon Province: Popular Destination - Kamay Ni Hesus

Lucban, Quezon Province

Whenever I ask my workmates if they’ve been to Quezon Province and they would answer with either a yes or no, my next question will be, “Have you been to Lucban? Do you know the Pahiyas Festival? Kamay Ni Hesus?”

I live in Makati during weekdays and in Lucena during weekends. If I can squeeze in time to travel to Lucban at least once a month, Chacha and I will visit Lala. Lala, my mom, currently lives in Lucban, Quezon.

A lot of people come to visit to see for themselves the miraculous healing of Rev. Fr. Joseph "Joey" A. Faller, the priest who founded the Kamay Ni Hesus Healing Shrine.
Sometimes I pray for peace of mind and health of my family, whenever I leave the place, I feel enlightened. All the prayers I made here were all answered.

Climbing the Hill
What makes this grotto special among others is the 298+ steps going up to the tall statue of Jesus. It's a good exercise but make sure you did some stretching and have a bottle of water with you. I recommend that you leave your bulky bags in your car or don't bring anything heavy with you on your visit.
Dolorosa Grotto

I climbed it recently with a bag full of baby bottles, umbrella, mineral water, clothes, cameras, et al. I swear I'm not going to do it again! So be prepared before you climb.

Healing Church

The 298 steps is no laughing matter. Ernie was carrying Chacha most of the time.

Relax with the Whole Family
The rent we pay goes to the church as donation and they used it to build the now amazing grotto along with other donations from patrons. The management continuously try to improve the facilities and the experience of our beloved visitors. I'm looking forward to the development in the coming years.
Noah's Ark

Sea of Galilee

It's also a nice place to bring your whole family. Kids can play here and even go up with you to the hill. Just make sure you can look after them.

Hungry?
Chacha looked haggard but still pretty after climbing the hill. We agreed to eat at Palaisdaan after resting and buying some souvenir shirts.
